Finding the Right Uniform

Choosing the right uniform is critical to your agency’s success. A good uniform keeps officers looking professional, instantly identifies them as authority figures, honors their community’s traditions and history, and enhances officers’ ability to carry out their duty. Selecting a new uniform is one of the most critical decisions an Agency will make, and the options can quickly become overwhelming.

That’s where Galls® can help. For over 50 years, Galls has successfully outfitted First Responders, Military, and Postal professionals, specializing in the most complex and precise uniforms and embellishments.

Galls Merchandiser Erica Agnew points out the most important criteria for evaluating new uniforms:

Fit and Comfort

Two questions will make or break a uniform.

If the answer isn’t a resounding “YES” to both, it’s time to move on.

  1. Does this uniform look good and present the wearer in a positive light?
  2.  Is this uniform comfortable over long shifts?

Those are the bare minimum requirements of any uniform, and it’s subjective, depending on the people wearing it and the community they serve. There’s no such thing as a one-size-fits-all solution, literally and figuratively.

Performance

Depending on the time and place, a uniform might need to keep you warm, keep you cool, wick moisture, breathe, stretch, resist fluids, and the list goes on and on. Not to mention that your uniform needs to hold up to wear and tear on a level far exceeding ordinary clothing. Bottom line, there is no universal solution.

Much like fit, a uniform should be tailored to suit your unique needs. Most likely, you’ll have a range of uniforms that will change with the seasons and with your assignment. Long sleeve, short sleeve, summer wear, winter wear, Class A, Class B, Class C . . . all of these and more are viable options for your agency.

Ease of Care

First Responders have more than problems to deal with. Your uniform should not be one of them. A good uniform should be stain-resistant, fade-resistance, and easily washed and dried at home. Some uniforms have useful additional features, like built-in permanent creases, to make it even easier to dress for duty.

Customization Options

Galls can make almost any custom design a reality, and assist in designing and placement. We test every custom embellishment before offering it to customers. Our in-house experts can guide you toward what works best, and what should be avoided.

Customizing with unique patches, striping, and other embellishments transforms a normal article set of clothing into a uniform. Galls is your one-stop shop for providing a complete, finished uniform of the highest standard.

Erica stresses the importance of wear-testing when selecting a new uniform:

“There’s no substitute for wear-testing. Departments need to have their officers try out the uniform in the real world, in the conditions in which they’ll be working. Something as subtle as the sort of vehicles they use can cause wear patterns that might affect one uniform more than others. There’s just no way of knowing how the uniform will work before it’s wear-tested.”

Galls can assist your agency with every step of building your new uniform.
